Google Play screenshot size: key rules and context
A safe phone size
1080 x 1920 (9:16) or 1080 x 2340 work well and fit inside the rules. For promotion eligibility on some surfaces, Google recommends at least 1080 px on the short side.
Feature graphic and icon. Feature graphic: 1024 x 500, JPEG or 24-bit PNG. Icon: 512 x 512, 32-bit PNG, up to 1 MB (icon specs). See Android icon design.

Worked example (hypothetical)
This example is illustrative. The app is made up, and so are any numbers in it.
Say NoteDrop exports 1080 × 2400 px screenshots. That's a 2.22:1 ratio, over Play's 2:1 limit, so the upload fails. We'd export at 1080 × 1920 px (16:9) instead and re-check the caption layout.
Common mistakes
- Tall modern ratios. Many phones are taller than 2:1.
- Transparent PNG. Not accepted.
- Only one screenshot. Minimum is two.
- Ignoring tablets. Missed placements.

How to export Google Play screenshots
Follow these steps in order. Each one is something we do on client work.
- Pick a ratio. 9:16 portrait works well for phones.
- Stay in range. Minimum 320 px, maximum 3,840 px per side.
- Respect the 2:1 limit. The long side can't exceed twice the short side.
- Use JPEG or 24-bit PNG. No alpha.
- Upload at least 2. Up to 8 per device type.
- Add large-screen sets if needed. Tablets and Chromebooks: 1,080–7,680 px, minimum 4 recommended.

Play Console enforces these limits for every language, full-width or half-width characters alike.

How we measure the result
For Google Play screenshot size, success is measured on conversion, not looks. App Analytics reports product page views and conversion rate, and product page optimization tests show estimated lift per treatment. We wait until the console shows a confident result before calling a winner.
