How to use it
Pick App Store or Google Play, paste your fields, read the warnings. Fix repeats first, then fill unused characters with terms from your keyword research.
What the warnings mean
- Repeated word: Apple combines name, subtitle and keywords, so a repeat wastes characters (Apple: Search).
- Space after comma: wasted character.
- Unused characters: room for another term.
Limits used
App Store: name 30, subtitle 30, keywords 100, promotional text 170. Google Play: title 30, short description 80, full description 4,000.
Want it done for you?
The ASO package rewrites all fields from research.
How to check a title, step by step
Follow these steps in order. Each one is something we do on client work.
- Paste the name. The tool counts characters.
- Check the 30-character limit. Both stores.
- Check repeats. Words already in the subtitle or keywords.
- Check policy words. No ranking claims, prices or emojis.
- Read it aloud. It should sound like a name.
- Check truncation. Long names cut off in search.
Worked example (hypothetical)
This example is illustrative. The app is made up, and so are any numbers in it.
Imagine ZenBreath: Best Free Meditation App #1 (38 characters). Over limit and policy-unsafe. We'd suggest "ZenBreath: Meditation & Sleep" (29).
App Store text fields and their limits
These are the limits App Store Connect enforces today. Plan your copy against them before you write a word.
| Field | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| App name | 2–30 characters | Shown on the product page and in search |
| Subtitle | 30 characters | Appears under the name |
| Keywords | 100 bytes | Comma-separated, each keyword more than two characters; don't repeat app or company name; no other app or company names |
| Promotional text | 170 characters | Above the description; can change without a new submission |
| Description | 4,000 characters | Plain text, no HTML |
| What's New | 4,000 characters | Required for every version after the first |
Google Play listing fields and their limits
Play Console enforces these limits for every language, full-width or half-width characters alike.

| Short description | 80 characters | First text users see on the detail page |
| Full description | 4,000 characters | Repetitive or irrelevant keywords can lead to suspension |
| App icon | 512 × 512 px, 32-bit PNG, max 1,024 KB | No badges or text implying ranking |
| Feature graphic | 1,024 × 500 px, JPEG or 24-bit PNG | No alpha |
How we measure the result
A tool gets you a correct file or a quick check; it doesn't tell you whether the result converts. After you upload, watch conversion in App Analytics or Play Console, and use product page optimization or store listing experiments to compare versions. Re-run the tool whenever Apple or Google updates their specs, which they do when new devices ship. We re-check the official spec pages each time we update these tools.
Common mistakes
- Over 30 characters. Rejected.
- Claims. Policy.
- Emojis. Policy on Play.
- Keyword salad. Looks spammy.
