How it works
The image is read locally with the browser's File API; its width, height and alpha channel are compared with published specs.

How to check a screenshot's size
Follow these steps in order. Each one is something we do on client work.
- Open the image. Read its pixel dimensions.
- Compare with the table. Exact Apple sizes; Play ranges.
- Check the ratio for Play. Long side ≤ 2× short side.
- Check format. PNG/JPEG; no alpha for Play.
- Fix and re-export. From the design file, not by stretching.
- Re-check before upload. Saves a failed upload.
Worked example (hypothetical)
This example is illustrative. The app is made up, and so are any numbers in it.
Say a designer delivers 1284 × 2778 px screenshots. That's an accepted older 6.5-inch iPhone size, but if the team wants the 6.9-inch set they need 1320 × 2868 px exports.
Screenshot specs we design to
Both stores publish exact requirements. These are the ones that matter most for a phone-first app.
| Store / device | Size or rule | Count |
|---|---|---|
| App Store, iPhone 6.9-inch | 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736 px (portrait) | 1–10 per device size |
| App Store, iPad 13-inch | 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 px (portrait) | 1–10 per device size |
| App Store, format | .jpeg,.jpg or.png | — |
| Google Play, phone | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, 320–3,840 px, long side no more than 2× the short side | Minimum 2 to publish, up to 8 per device type |
| Google Play, Chromebook / tablet | 1,080–7,680 px, 16:9 or 9:16 | Minimum 4 recommended |
Quick size check
| If your image is… | Then… |
|---|---|
| 1320 × 2868 | Accepted for iPhone 6.9-inch |
| 2064 × 2752 | Accepted for iPad 13-inch |
| 1080 × 1920 | Fits Google Play phone rules |
| 1080 × 2400 | Too tall for Play (over 2:1) |
How we measure the result
A tool gets you a correct file or a quick check; it doesn't tell you whether the result converts. After you upload, watch conversion in App Analytics or Play Console, and use product page optimization or store listing experiments to compare versions. Re-run the tool whenever Apple or Google updates their specs, which they do when new devices ship. We re-check the official spec pages each time we update these tools.
Common mistakes
- Stretching images. Blurry.
- Ignoring ratio. Play rejection.
- Alpha channels. Play rejection.
- Guessing sizes. Failed upload.

Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No.
Does it check iPad?
Yes, 13-inch sizes.
Does it detect transparency?
Yes for PNG.
Does it check file size?
It shows it; Apple and Google limits.
Can it resize?
No.
Why does App Store Connect reject my screenshot?
Usually the pixel dimensions don't match an accepted size for that device class.
