iPad App Store screenshots: sizes and tips

Quick answer: iPad App Store screenshots are required if your app runs on iPad. The 13-inch size is 2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732 pixels portrait, or the landscape equivalents. Don't stretch iPhone screenshots: design for the wider layout, and show iPad-specific features like split view or larger canvases.

How to make iPad screenshots that convert

Follow these steps in order. Each one is something we do on client work.

  1. Use the 13-inch size. 2064 × 2752 px or 2048 × 2732 px portrait.
  2. Design for the canvas. Show split views, sidebars and multitasking.
  3. Rewrite captions. iPad users may use the app differently.
  4. Use landscape if the app does. Match real usage.
  5. Keep text large. Still small in search.
  6. Upload separately. Don't reuse iPhone art.

iPad App Store screenshot: key rules and context

Sizes

13-inch iPad: 2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732 portrait; 2752 x 2064 or 2732 x 2048 landscape (Apple specs). Up to 10 screenshots.

When they're required. If your build supports iPad (including iPhone apps that run natively on iPad), App Store Connect asks for iPad screenshots. iPhone-only apps don't need them.

Design tips

  • Landscape often suits iPad apps better.
  • Show layouts that only work on a big screen.
  • Keep captions large; iPad thumbnails are still small in search.
  • Don't letterbox phone screenshots.

Related sizes. iPhone sizes are in App Store screenshot sizes. For the iPad icon see iPad app icon design.

Worked example (hypothetical)

This example is illustrative. The app is made up, and so are any numbers in it.

Imagine SketchPad Pro uses stretched iPhone screenshots on iPad. We'd rebuild them in landscape to show the canvas, tool palette and Apple Pencil input, which guideline 2.3.3 explicitly allows as overlays.

Common mistakes

  • Stretched iPhone art. Wrong ratio.
  • Ignoring landscape. Many iPad apps live there.
  • Same captions. Missed iPad features.
  • Tiny UI. Zoom into key areas.
